system, lighting, bio-fuel generators, decor
and event management services for social
events for up to 500 people.
Q: Why
should I choose Over The Moon Tents?
A: See our About
Us Page for an answer to this.
Q: Do
we have to hire tents from Over The Moon
to use your other services?
A: No, not always. We can provide our
event services ( music, decor, lighting and production)
to clients who may be holding events in-doors.
Q: What music do Over the Moon DJs play?
A: Over the Moon DJs are happy to play music
that clients want to hear. Please let us know two
weeks in advance so we can ensure we have the music
you want to hear.
Q: What
if I want something different from what is
shown on the website?
A: We have lots of contacts in the
events industry who can assist us with tents,
decor and other event requirements. Please contact
us or use the quote form to tell us what
you are interested in.
Q: How
much space do I need to allow to pitch the
tent?
A: The amount of space required is described
on the tents pages of the relevant tent.
Q: How
can I pay?
A: You can pay by Paypal, BACS, cash or cheque.
We ask for a 25% deposit to confirm the booking,
with the balance payable 14 days before the first
day of hire. Please note that cheques must be with
us to allow sufficient time for funds to clear.
Q: How
long does it take to erect the tent?
A: It takes us about three hours to erect a Yurt, two
hours for a Pavilion and one hour for a Tipi. The
Military marquee can take from 2-4 hours depending
on the number of sections.
Q: How
do tents handle wet and windy weather?
A:If the weather is inclement being outdoors
under canvas is still a fun event. Tents are fully
waterproof, and with flooring and heating feel warm
and toasty inside. Where possible additional areas
may be covered to keep out the wet, and/or the layout
of the event can be adapted. Often weather conditions
can lend a spirit and joyous feel to proceedings.
If it is raining then we will ensure that the run
off water is safely handled and all electrics are
protected. Covered walkways may be advisable to limit
going out in the wet.
If there are very high winds then we make an assessment
with a wind guage to ensure that erecting or collapsing
the tents will not be a high risk to health and safety
for people. Force 5 wind, which is upto 25mph, is
when we would consider delaying erection till the
wind subsides. Event insurance cover can be found
on the internet to offset some weather risks unduly
affecting an event.
Q: Can
I come and see a tent set up before i book?
A: Yes, this is possible. Sometimes we have open
days where you can see our tents. Check the news
page for information. Also please ask us and we can
enquire with a client to arrange a viewing, if it
is convenient.
Q: Can
I have an open fire in my tent?
A: No we like to keep the tents smelling only
of canvas and not smoke. Fires in tipis are very
smoky and are less romantic than the imagination
would suggest.
Q: Can
guests smoke in the tents?
A: In response to the new no-smoking law the
following information is useful:
Are Marquees & Tents affected?
Yes, the law does apply to temporary structures.
Premises are considered 'substantially enclosed'
if they have a ceiling or roof, but have an opening
in the walls, which is less than half the total area
of the walls. The area of the opening does not include
doors, windows or any other fittings that can be
opened or shut.
Is a marquee or tent a public Place?
A marquee or tents supplied to private property,
where the only uses are pre-invited non paying guests
then, apparently, this is not a public place. However
please bear in mind that if there are any subcontractors
on site, such as entertainers, speakers, caterers,
DJs or other event support staff, then the Marquee
becomes a public place.
What is your responsibility?
There is a requirement for substantially enclosed
public structures to have non smoking signs prominently
displayed at each entrance. There should be a large
(at least A5) sign including the no-smoking symbol
at least 70mm in diameter, and carrying the words "No
Smoking". It is against the law to smoke in these
Premises, displayed at every public entrance. A smaller
sign consisting of the no-smoking symbol at least
70mm in diameter may be instead displayed at staff
entrances.
The law does not make it clear however whether the
display of these signs is the responsibility of the
event organisor or the Marquee provider. Having consulted
authorities the responsibility would be considered
a joint one. Over the Moon will supply these signs
where needed and afix them to the tents.
Q: Do
i need event insurance?
A: Just google 'Event insurance' to see what's
available. We have insurance for our equipment and
public liability. Depending upon your outlook you
may want the extra protection given by specific insurance
for your event.
Q: Are
your tents fire retardant?
A: Yes. Our tents are constructed from fire retardant
fabrics, as is our flooring and most of our decor.

Q: How
do i estimate how much space is needed for
dining?
A:Rectangular tables are the best use of space
in rectangular tents, while circular tables work
best in circular tents. For use as a dining tent
the most efficient seating is to use rectangular
tables and benches style along the tent's length.
The rule of thumb for seating area is to allow 1.5msq
for each seated person. Using benches will reduce
this to 1msq.
Q: Do
you do site visit's beforehand?
A: Yes if you are hiring two or more tents from
us. A site visit needs the client, or their representative,
present so they can tell us their plans.
Q: What
type of area is needed for the tents?
A: We need a flat level grass surface. The area
must allow the tents to be sited away from
trees and any underground pipes. Our tent stakes
can go in as deep as 2.5ft .
If we cannot drive onto the site (i.e it is in a
back-garden) then will require clear access a metre
wide, and is no more than 50 yards from our vehicle(s).
Q: Can
we as clients hire your tents and put them
up ourselves?
A: No, we always erect and dissemble our tents,
we do not allow anyone not employed by us to erect
tents.
Q: What
is the minimum tent hire?
A: The minimum hire is one of any of the tents
we offer.
Q: Is
tent hire only available at weekends?
A: We offer tents and our other hire services
365 days of the year.
Q: What
furnishings do Over The Moon Tents offer?
A: See our decor and lighting pages
for more information on this.
